This updated itinerary focuses on the majestic scenery of both islands, including the geothermal wonders of the North and the dramatic fjords of the South. The route covers all major highlights while allowing for a relaxed and comfortable pace.

Part 1: North Island

DAY 1: Arrival in Auckland
  • Arrival in Auckland (flights recommended before 2:00 PM). Airport Meet & Greet.
  • Transfer to the city and hotel check-in.
  • Drive to the summit of Mt Eden for the best panoramic views of the city.
  • Auckland City Highlights Tour: Waterfront, Harbour Bridge, Auckland Domain.
  • Evening walk and dinner in the lively Viaduct Harbour precinct.
DAY 2: Rotorua & Geothermal Wonders
  • Morning drive from Auckland to Rotorua (direct route, ~3 hours) through scenic farmland.
  • Arrival in Rotorua — the heart of Maori culture.
  • Visit the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland (Lady Knox Geyser, Champagne Pool). Entry: ~$45 NZD.
  • Visit Huka Falls — the most powerful waterfall in New Zealand.
  • Lunch on the shores of Lake Taupo.
  • Evening: Visit a Maori Village (e.g., Te Puia or Mitai) for a cultural concert and traditional "Hangi" dinner. (Dinner/Show cost: ~$130-160 NZD).

Part 2: South Island

DAY 3: Tauranga & Flight to Queenstown
  • Depart Rotorua towards the coast.
  • Visit the city of Tauranga and the famous seaside resort Mount Maunganui. Opportunity to walk the beach or climb the mount.
  • Transfer to Auckland Airport. (Note: Drive time approx. 2.5 - 3 hours).
  • Evening flight to Queenstown (South Island). Recommended flight after 5:00 PM.
  • Arrival in Queenstown, transfer to hotel.
DAY 4: Queenstown & Surrounds
  • Morning: Trip to the historic gold-mining town of Arrowtown.
  • Visit the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge (home of the world's first Bungy Jump).
  • Wine tasting in the Otago region.
  • Ride the Skyline Gondola to Bob’s Peak for panoramic views over Lake Wakatipu.
  • Free time in Queenstown.
DAY 5: Journey to Te Anau
  • Pickup from Queenstown and drive towards Te Anau.
  • Follow the road winding around the gentle curves of Lake Wakatipu with stunning views of The Remarkables mountain range.
  • Arrive at the shores of Lake Te Anau, the largest lake on the South Island. Its western arms disappear into the dense forests of the Murchison Mountains.
  • The picturesque town of Te Anau is the base for exploring the glacier-carved Fiordland National Park.
  • It is the perfect stopover on the way to Milford Sound, offering a wide choice of accommodation including lodges and hotels.
  • Overnight stay in Te Anau. Enjoy one of the delicious local restaurants in the town center.
DAY 6: Milford Sound Cruise
  • Journey to Milford Sound through the mountains with plenty of scenic stops.
  • Milford Sound 2-Hour Cruise. Relax on a modern catamaran with unlimited close-up viewing of waterfalls, wildlife (seals, dolphins), and rainforests from three viewing decks (indoor and outdoor).
  • Return to Te Anau through the mountains.
  • Stop for lunch in Te Anau.
  • Drive back to Queenstown (Total drive: 3 hours 49 minutes, 289 km).
DAY 7: Lake Wanaka & Departure
  • Drive via the Crown Range summit to Lake Wanaka.
  • Photo stop at the famous "Wanaka Tree".
  • Transfer to Queenstown Airport.
  • Flight home (to Sydney/Melbourne).
