⚠ Before You Start — Important Tips
This is a
browser-based web tour for walkers and cyclists. For a smooth experience please note:
- Keep the screen awake. When the screen locks, iOS/Android pause GPS and audio for web pages. Before you start:
- iPhone: Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never.
- Android: Settings → Display → Screen timeout (may also be labelled Sleep or Screen off on Samsung/Xiaomi/Huawei) → pick the longest option, usually 30 minutes.
- Bring a power bank. GPS + audio drains the battery fast. A pocket USB power bank keeps you going for the full walk.
- Use headphones. Wired earphones or Bluetooth buds — the commentary is meant for your ears, not the people next to you, and you'll hear the audio clearly over festival crowds.
- Keep the tab in the foreground. Don’t switch apps mid-walk — reloading restarts from the beginning.
- Mobile data is required. Sydney CBD has solid 4G/5G coverage along the entire route. Audio streams as you arrive at each installation.
How to use this tour:
1. Press
Start Audio Tour — the browser asks for GPS permission. Allow it.
GUIDE turns on automatically.
2. Walk (or cycle) towards the first installation — the Opera House sails. The map shows all 33 installations as numbered pins.
3. With
GUIDE ON, audio plays automatically when you arrive within
30 m of any installation. Visited cards move to the bottom when the audio finishes.
4. With
GUIDE OFF, tap
▶ Listen on any card to play it manually whenever you want.
5. Tap a pin on the map to jump that installation to the top of the list. Tap
Navigate on a card to open Google Maps walking directions to that stop.
6. Use
SORT BY DISTANCE / NUMBER to switch the card order — by closeness to you, or by the original 1…33 sequence.
For walkers: allow about 2–3 hours including photo stops. The route is flat, stroller-friendly, and lit throughout the festival.
For cyclists: about 90 minutes if you don’t stop. Dismount in dense crowds at Circular Quay and Cockle Bay — you’ll be quicker on foot through those sections anyway.
⚠ Do not close or reload this page during the walk — reloading resets all progress.
By using this tour you agree to our Terms & Conditions. Cyclists — keep your eyes on the path and the audio low enough to hear traffic and pedestrians.
